Long rambling posts about China, Steampunk, and the Three Kingdoms period on hold due to massive amounts of OMGWTFBBQ.

Wee bit stressed out.

In other news, HOLY CRAP November IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! AHHHH!

Thank you.

Train trip went well enough. Did very little writing, but I do have a handle on trains and descriptions I'll use if the train comes into the story at all. I imagine it will since train travel is slow enough that I'll have lots of time to write conversation and long descriptions of the scenery. And that's what nano is all about.

Sorry I didn't get to see anyone while I was up north. There was no time between the funeral and the wake and then my getting a cold. Also I was pretty poor company since I spent a lot of time trying not to cry.

Anyway, NaNo looms in the distance and I need to do some world building so expect some rambling posts about China.

Because I really hate flying. Really really hate flying. Also the train was cheaper by $100.

I'll be heading up to MA for a week so you may or may not being seeing a lot of me around these parts as I studiously attempt to distract myself at every possible opportunity.

For those of you who are following me for Three Kingdoms Steampunk, I realize this period takes place in 250 but how do you all feel about trains?
Since I'm going to be on a train for 12 hours I thought I'd see if I could gather any inspiration but I'm worried that trains might be a wee bit too modern.

I'm worried about trains and I'm planning on having airships. -_- I'm so silly.

But seriously, trains yea or nay?

I hope everyone has celebrated today by doing something fun.
Today is also my fourth wedding anniversary.

We went out for dinner last night since our favorite place isn't open on Sunday and I made a roast for dinner tonight.

Hope everyone had a lovely day.

So NaNoWriMo is one month away.

Now is the time to run around frantically searching for something to write so that when the clock ticks November 1 I can dive into MS word like a starving Grizzly Bear.

My Steampunk Three Kingdoms story is gaining steam although I'm discovering more and more people are really excited about a Steampunk Three Kingdoms story. So that's fun. Always nice to have other people excited about the time period. Although all my knowledge of it comes from Wikipedia and my many readings of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and although its a great novel its not what we would call Historically accurate.

To give an example of a story I know, Journey to the West takes place in the Tang Dynasty (618–907) but it was written in the Ming (1368–1644). Throughout the novel we get descriptions of things that are clearly from the Ming, clothes, food etc.

Romance was published in the 14th century so also written in and around the late Yuan early Ming. The Three Kingdoms period takes place in 220–280. You see my issue.

I'm probably not going to have any of the common faces from this time, except for passing mentions, but we'll see.

My main characters actually have names now. Cui Xian Gao, (Cui Lofty Virtue) my air pirate and Bai Qiuhu (White Autumn Jade) my animal spirit. And if there are any Three Kingdoms scholars out there that think my names are wrong, TELL ME! Please! I did my best using several guides.

There is also the barest outline of a plot. They are going after a Jian sword that was buried in a tomb.

To sum up. Air Pirate and a Tiger Spirit go tomb robbing. And that makes a great working title.

Whelp work is worklike and going well. That's good.

Health is....well been better but I've been way worse. J relapsed again but has bounced back pretty well, so that's really good. Today however I'm trying to come down with a cold. It better cease and desist before Monday.

Now as NaNo looms I have Steampunk set in the Three Kingdoms period. There is now perhaps an air pirate (because every good steampunk needs air pirates right?) and an animal spirit (because every good Chinese story needs supernatural animal spirits right?). And....that's it.

There may be a pocket watch with a dragon on it and maybe a dragon but other than that I got nothing.

So NaNo is only what? Four months away?
I've been tossing around ideas.
I've decided on Steampunk Ancient China.
Steampunk technology and airships set in the Three Kingdoms period.

Hell yes.

I am somehow, don't know how, keeping up with one picture a day. I am proud of myself.

I was doing really well for awhile. I felt really good, I was excited about cooking again, I was cleaning bits of the house and then I just crashed. No idea why. Still recovering from that slowly but surely.

Am not managing to keep up on housework and cleaning. Got socked hardcore with fatigue on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was the worst I think I've had in a long time. It was hard to get up for work but I made it. Still, drank twice as much caffeine as I normally do and I still only barely made it through the day without falling asleep. I probably should've called in sick but I didn't really think of it.

I did throw some food into a box and called it a Bento. It was tasty. Not pretty though.

Parents are coming down at the end of the month. Hope to have a somewhat clean house by then. Although I am in such a state of I don't give a fuck that I may not care.*

*I will care, no doubt shortly before they arrive and will run around like a chicken with my head cut off to clean.

Being a member of a Bento community is a great way to see what other people are doing and get ideas for meals.

However when you are in poor health and struggling just to keep up with cooking and housework looking at wonderfully crafted Bento lunches is not going to give you ideas its just going to make you feel more and more guilty that you haven't managed to actually make a bento in weeks.

So in short, stop looking at everyone's pretty shiny awesome bentos. Or at least throw a sandwhich in your favorite box and call it a bento before you go looking to see what other people are eating.

I have managed to stay on track. I am proud of myself. And, what's even better is I've learned something.

Light is everything.

Good natural light can make a picture look great.

A good camera helps.

My old cannon sureshot is great, but a super great expensive camera can sometimes help make a good photo.

Photoshop is our friend.

Not in edit the photo to MAKE it good, but in a subtle light correction kind of way.

A productive four months I think. I am a little disappointed in my trusty old camera. Having used a much better (and much more expensive) camera I have seen the limits of mine and at times they frustrate me. The aim of this exercise was in fact to make myself a better photographer and perhaps provide an excuse to get a better camera. Plenty of books on photography I've read practically demand you use your old crappy camera since the shots you get out of that can be just as good.

I have seen this (see the light issue above) but I have also seen what 20x optical zoom can do over a 4x optical zoom. We'll have to see how the rest of the year plays out before rushing to rash decisions.

Driving back from my bi yearly dentist appointment in the next town when I notice that my inspection sticker is two months out of date.

Well crap. That, ladies and gentleman, is what you get when you never drive. Thank all the gods I wasn't pulled over. I dropped the car off my mechanic to get the inspection done as well as a lube and oil, and get my back tires replaced.

(Also my city sticker is out of date and I left my lunch in my car but hopefully both those things will be easy to remedy.)

Started playing DQ8 again to relax a bit. The game remains totally awesome.

Spring has finally arrived more or less. The flowers are actually blooming, the trees have buds, and the grass is trying as hard as it can to turn green.

Although today the morning was cold enough that I really regretted wearing a short sleeve shirt to work. (I needed something green, it was all I had clean!) The sun is out now so hopefully it will warm up.

Hello Spring, I would like you to stay around for a while.
